Latest news: Recently, Intel and Red Hat have demonstrated through a series of innovative examples how the two parties have achieved their goal of providing automated, cloud-native infrastructure for new 5G services through strategic cooperation. Based on the basic work officially launched in January this year and the new Intel® Select solutions for network transformation, including a new reference design for virtual radio access networks (vRAN), partners can benefit from a more complete solution. Solutions and faster value realization time to realize the transformation from the cloud to the network and then to the edge.

Honoré LaBourdette, Vice President of Red Hat Telecommunications, Media, and Entertainment, said: “Red Hat is committed to promoting the evolution of 5G through cloud-native, open source innovation. By working closely with our strong partner ecosystem, we empower customers to deliver cloud-native In order to obtain the benefits of 5G-accelerated infrastructure and system resources. Supporting flexible deployment models makes it easier to adopt multi-cloud and hybrid cloud architecture strategies from edge to cloud."

Significance: Red Hat and Intel are committed to faster migration of 5G, network innovation and related functions to upstream open source projects through research and development. The strategic cooperation between Intel and Red Hat combines Red Hat’s OpenShift with the third-generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors with built-in artificial intelligence (AI) acceleration, Intel® Ethernet network adapters, Intel® FlexRAN reference software, and intelligent edge computing The software toolkit Intel® Smart Edge Open and other products are organically combined.

Communication service providers (CoSP) and enterprises need to adopt cloud-native methods throughout the network to increase flexibility, agility, and scale. The collaboration between Intel and Red Hat can simplify the challenges and complexity of delivering innovation from the cloud to the network to the edge, thereby helping companies provide cloud partners with better network visibility and control. One example is the jointly-designed operator product portfolio-used for access edge deployments to assist in managing the life cycle of Intel accelerators used for cloud-native RAN DU deployments on commercial Kubernetes distributions.

How to use: Innovative solutions developed by partners using this technology include:

Altiostar: Using the jointly designed Intel® Smart Edge Open Operators for Red Hat OpenShift, Altiostar launched its cloud native open RAN (O-RAN) on Intel FlexRAN and Red Hat OpenShift. The 5G solution is based on OpenShift with zero-touch configuration and will pave the way for other O-RAN solutions. This solution uses Intel FlexRAN, Intel Xeon Scalable processors and Intel® Ethernet 800 series network adapters. It can help customers realize high-performance, highly optimized and time-sensitive 5G O-RAN solutions.

Casa Systems: Casa Systems' proprietary 5G multi-access network solution is the first cloud-native product that allows service providers and enterprises to deploy personalized proprietary networks with higher security, application customization, and differentiated performance. Based on the Red Hat OpenShift solution using Intel Xeon Scalable processor and Intel Ethernet 800 series network adapter technology, Casa’s unique proprietary 5G multi-access and multi-domain network architecture method breaks the previous technical barriers and simplifies More scalable, dynamically adjustable, safe and reliable proprietary 5G network deployment.

Dell Technology Service Edge: In April, Dell launched the Dell Technology Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) reference architecture based on Intel Intelligent Edge. The Dell MEC controller is integrated with Red Hat OpenShift, allowing operators to use public or private clouds to integrate solutions into the network faster, thus shortening the time to market. Dell MEC takes full advantage of Intel innovations, including Xeon Scalable processors, security enhancements, SDKs such as the Intel® OpenVINO™ toolkit, and innovative technologies in 4G and 5G. The solution provides an edge native business platform, making it easier for mobile network operators to provide proprietary mobile and edge computing services to enterprises that adopt the zero-trust security model.

Turnium and Juniper Networks: The two companies announced the launch of certified and validated Red Hat OpenShift cloud native capabilities. These cloud-native universal customer premise equipment (uCPE) loads include the certified Turnium Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) and the proven Juniper Networks cSRX firewall. The uCPE architecture is based on container loads, allowing users to flexibly select functions to deliver and manage reliable connectivity, security and other functions, thereby accelerating the deployment of edge applications running on Intel and other uCPE architectures.

Fixed access: Using Red Hat OpenShift, Intel and Red Hat also recently launched a new cloud-native, fixed access-based blueprint. The blueprint encourages broadband independent software vendors to adopt open source projects, including Intel Xeon Scalable processors and Intel Ethernet 800 series network adapters. This technology promotes the transformation of fixed access by encouraging open source strategies and integrates the ecosystem. The open source strategy aims to meet the performance and flexibility required for the transition from fixed access to a converged edge cloud.

Jeni Panhorst, Vice President of Intel’s Data Platform Division and General Manager of the Network and Edge Platform Division, said: “Our expertise in chips, software, and engineering, supplemented by our advantages in open source, can enable communication service providers and enterprises to implement cloud native more quickly. Network, thereby improving agility. Given that network architects have endless hardware solutions and can provide overwhelming choices. The cooperation between Intel and Red Hat will bring together the ecosystem and allow enterprises to optimize applications and business processes. "
